2012 Field Cleanup Day

Each year we rely on YOUR help to clean up the fields, and this year will be no exception.
- 3/31 & 4/1 are rained out
- Sat. April 7th – 10am until 4pm or later
We pull weeds, paint over graffiti, repair the dugouts and clean up the concession area and the storage locker.
Our goal is to have every player attend, and to bring at least one person from their family, so we can get the place ship-shape in just a couple of hours, rather than create a miserable all day job for just a few people.
We do have a few tools, and the league will provide paint, brushes and odds and ends, but we really need you to bring any of the following:
- Work gloves
- Flat shovels
- Spades
- Old clothes
- Patience
- A good attitude
Can we count on your support this year?
When: To be announced soon
Where: At the fields!

RJB Awarded a $3,900 Grant
Friends of Baseball, a new foundation established to support Youth Baseball, generously donated to our league.
Inspired by a father and son bond formed years earlier through the love of baseball, a Portland businessman has created a one million dollar foundation to support
youth baseball in Northwest Oregon.Keenan Longcor, who reflects fondly on his experience with his son Ben, established the Friends of Baseball (FOB) earlier this year to provide grants to help struggling baseball leagues succeed in order to enrich youth / parent relationships and to promote life lessons of good sportsmanship and teamwork.
Rockwood Junior Baseball is among the first five leagues to benefit from the Friends of Baseball foundation. When RJB was made aware of the Foundation, the board wrote a grant asking for funds to help pay for a utility vehicle to help with field maintenance.
“This generous contribution will provide great relief to our volunteer field manager, Nick Vanoudenhaegen and the other coaches and parents who put in dozens of hours each week to keep our fields in top playing condition for daily games and practices” said Monica Cory, RBJ Treasurer. “Not only will this gift assist our volunteers and serve ball players, its a boon to the community since the ongoing presence of baseball families helps keep our home park safer for everyone.”
“I have been fortunate in my business and I felt it was time to give back to the sport and the community that helped create lifelong memories for both my son and me, Longcor explained as he reflected on the reason for creating the foundation. “It is my hope that through the Friends of Baseball, other parents and children will kindle a similar bond found in sharing the sport that has so many lifelong lessons. Our inaugural grants reflect the spirit and mission of FOB.”
Rockwood Junior Baseball: Grant Summary
This league has overcome significant financial hardships, including the embezzlement of funds by a former league president. Through it all, their community rose above the challenges to insure their teams could continue to play and compete. Grant: $3,900 for a utility vehicle to assist volunteers in managing and maintaining their five playing fields.

Major League Pitcher Visits RJB
We had a great surprise last evening when Minnesota Twins pitcher, Dennys Reyes took time out of his busy schedule to watch a game at Gunter Field. After the game, he spent time practicing with RJB players.
Thank you, Mr. Reyes for making Twins fans out of a bunch of Portland, Oregon kids. It’s way too seldom that professional players take the time to show kids that some still act like the role-models they are.
